Everything I’m writing these days is related to promoting The Midds, which is fine and great and my pleasure and often very entertaining to work on, but there is not a lot of fiction writing going on. But! There will be fiction writing going on in 2013, because I am happy to announce that I sold my book proposal for SAINT MAZIE to the great Helen Atsma again at Grand Central, where, I should add, I have been more than content. Here is the official announcement:
The Middlesteins author Jami Attenberg’s SAINT MAZIE, inspired by the real-life Mazie Phillips, a brassy, bold, remarkable woman who worked among society’s misfits in the Bowery in the 40s, transforming her own life in the process, again to Helen Atsma at Grand Central, by Douglas Stewart at Sterling Lord Literistic (NA).
What this means is that I will get to work on this book next year. I’m really dreamy about it all. Like, I love Mazie so much. I just like thinking about her all the time. She was messed up but strong, bitter but full of faith, drunk but clear-headed, and a sexpot to boot. She was a savior who did not want or need a thank you. She was just seeking clarity for herself. She led a life. She feels important to me. I hope you’ll feel the same.
