What remains of New Hampshire in my brain
Last night’s Cabinet of Wonders event at the City Winery was amazing, stressful, and then amazing again. Performance is sometimes hard for non-pro-performer types like myself, but even harder when you have to follow someone like the unbelievably talented Eleanor freaking Friedberger. Holy crap, she was good. Every single person who performed was just so awesome at their job. Also Wesley Stace is just a gem of a man who has truly put together an excellent and unique performance series, and I just feel so lucky to know him.
Afterward I went with Maura and Rosie and Erica and Sheila and Krucoff to The Ear Inn, where I drank some (more) red wine, until suddenly it was late and I had to go home because I am old and unaccustomed to having that much fun anymore.
Today I woke up late, and then met my family down at Smorgasburg where I had some kind of out-of-sight falafel and an iced coffee that tended nicely to my lingering hangover. At some point my niece and I invented a game that involved me putting my hand on top of her head and saying, “I’m going to suck your brain out,” and then making a loud sucking noise. It was pretty thrilling, especially making the sucking noise. (Try making one right now. You liked it, didn’t you?) And when she sucked my brain out she actually pretended to eat it. I approved of this innovation. She’s got a good head on her shoulders, that kid.
