I’ll burn my eyes out.

The Bowery

March! I bet you didn’t think it was EVER going to be March, this winter being so ceaselessly brutal. And yet here it is, and the sun is out, at least in Brooklyn, and the sky is blue blue blue. March! Marry me.

I have a few readings this month. The first is this Thursday, March 3, at Pete’s Candy Store. I will be reading a chapter from The Middlesteins, which contains the following sentence:

Do orphans go sailing?

I am also reading in two weeks, on March 14, at Franklin Park Reading Series. I may read the same chapter there. Or I may read a chapter that contains the phrase:

the decimation of all of fat-free-based-snack America

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Also I am reading on March 23 at the How I Learned Series at Happy Ending. The theme this time is “How I Learned to Fight Back” and I don’t want to ruin anything for you, but I will be reading a true story that originally appeared on this site last summer involving something being stolen and returned, and this particular reading will be annotated with some fresh new supporting details. And I think it will be fun.

I actually think all of these events will be fun. Like I think the one this Thursday will be fun because Pete’s Candy Store is a super cute venue and the ladies who run the event are nice and Diana Spechler is going to read from her new book and she is always a good time and I will be extra excited because this will be the first time I have read this chapter out loud.

And I think the Franklin Park event will be fun because lots of other interesting people will be reading, and that event is always packed with this super fun, young, intense crowd and I really dig how it’s in this space that feels like it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, except it’s not nowhere is it? It’s Crown Heights. Brooklyn. Yea.

And obviously How I Learned is going to be fun because of STOLEN BIKE STORIES. Ooh, I can’t wait for that. There may never be another appropriate time to read this story in public again so I am going to give it my all.

All right, so you’re coming, right? Just pick one! You can’t lose. And I would love to see your pretty face.

Feels nice to be coming out of hibernation, doesn’t it? And with three great events to boot!
