I texted Jonny this morning and asked him what I should do in Chicago today and he texted back: Go to the zoo.
Totally (and obviously) I went to the zoo.
I had a great time eavesdropping on small children but goddamn does that el train run slow these days.
Everything's fun in Chicago right now. Last night I saw Kate blow the roof off the Bookslut reading. I begged her to read in the voice of Maxine, her dry, wry aged lesbian artist character, and she promised to do it at her next reading in New York. So I will be going to that definitely.
Afterwards Wendy and Chris and I went to Loafers, a little dive bar down the street from their house. I was forced to drink whiskey because I know better than to order wine at a dive bar. Unfortunately I do NOT know better than to drink whiskey after three glasses of wine, followed by more whiskey at home whilst watching my very first episode of The Dog Whisperer. (Aw, crazy dogs are cute too.)
I just finished an interview with a writer for Venus about TKM. They were the first to want to review the last book, and they are the first to want to interview me for this book, and I have to say, Thank You Venus!
Tomorrow I head out on the road for a long day's journey into the wilds of Nebraska. There will be a cocktail party awaiting me and Guth when we get there. I hope the wine's good because I have learned my lesson with whiskey.
Again. Why must I always learn the same lesson a million times?
