07/15/01 I'm sort of like the luckiest girl in the world, except I'm not, because I think I put a little effort into it, so maybe I've earned everything good that happens to me, too. I'm back in Seattle for my yearly visit, and everything is just as I've left it, except for the following: 1. The hippie girls, Kelly and Mollie, finally moved off the island and out of the trailer, and now have a tidy apartment up in the 80s. I walked into their new place on Friday, (after visiting Kelly at the Alki Tavern for a few hours and then picking up Mollie), and I proclaimed, "This is your grownup apartment!" And it is a cute place, one half of a duplex (would that make it a plex?), with a nice, sunny living room, a well-sized breakfast nook and kitchen, and two big bedrooms. Mollie told me later about how all her time in the trailer had caused her to have an asthma attack of such a severe nature that she had to spend a week in the hospital. Kelly, too, suffered, and carried bronchitis for months. There was just too much mold and pollen and crap for them to survive out there, so I was glad to see that they were in a healthier environment. Silly, darling hippie girls. 2. John's single again, and now he's not nearly so depressing to be around. I think it was super easy for me to get over him last time because I felt like I didn't recognize him anymore. This weekend we've had the time to talk, and he's told me that he didn't like where he'd been, but he's optimistic about where he's going. He said lots of lovely things to me, but that's nothing different. I just thought I'd throw that in there so that everyone knows I'm feeling pretty good right about now. 3. Pierre's hair is longer and he doesn't have a job. He's still in 80 million bands though. I've run into various other folks from my past, but I won't go into it not because it hasn't been interesting, but because if I were to start in on the context, I'd be here all damn day, and I'm on vacation, dammit. I will add that I did go camping yesterday, and the sound of a fresh stream lulls you to sleep way better than any prescription medication. I do have this funky little crick in my neck, though, but it's nothing a nice microbrew won't cure. Back on Tuesday. I'm thinking about going to Pittsburgh to see the Warhol museum. Anyone interested in going or have any information on it?
