Massive headspin.

From the shoot for the new book trailer for Janice. That's our new apartment, by the way. There are more photos but I cannot share as I do not want to spoil the surprise of the video. Also, of course I had to try on the wig. And I'm keeping it!

I did an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times something like two days after we all got kicked out of the building at the end of January, so I was extra bitter. I remember I was huddling in Jon's bathroom because it was early and I didn't want to wake anyone else up in the apartment. (The glamorous writer's life, I know.) Through various circumstances the publication date of the article got moved around until today. So, some of the information contained in it is a little dated (for example I am no longer homeless and the vacate order on the building has been lifted and, of course, we are moving back in), but in general it's pretty right-on. And it's exciting to be in one of my hometown newspapers.

Read "Losing her home, finding her story."

Also Skeet on Mischa was totally reading my book on the beach.

All in all, a good morning for the book.

I'm a little weary from last night's goodbye party for Leigh Ann, who is moving to Los Angeles to be with her man, which I used to think (like, in my twenties) was the dumbest reason in the world for doing anything but of course now I completely understand. I'm not saying I would do it, but I fully get it and approve of those grand acts of love.

Cat and I went to dinner first at Cafecito (where we ran into young Sarah Bowlin, another fine associate of Riverhead Books) and we ate and ate and drank wicked sangria so by the time we showed up at Against the Grain for the party we were a little (ok, a lot) tipsy. I met some nice Brits (we mutually bashed our own governments, always a bonding experience) and the woman who owns Babycakes, which is this awesome vegan bakery in the city. I told her last night that I hadn't been there but this morning I remembered I had, specifically after a party at Lolita Bar for that Sassy magazine book that came out last year. Megan and Jonny and I crammed cupcakes in our mouths. It was the best.

Anyway at the end of the night Cat and Leigh Ann and I were reminiscing about our wilder youth when we were all single and running around to rock clubs and flirting with boys in bands and getting our hearts broken. That was five years ago! Cat was the first to fall, when she met Carl, and then me, and now Leigh Ann. I would like to say I miss it, but I cannot lie, I do not have the energy these days to have that kind of fun anymore. But I will always have my memories. Which means I will always have enough source material for my books. Which is all i care about anyway.
