For ten long years.

TD was in town and we wasted a good chunk of the day drinking coffee and taking pictures and eating leftover pizza and messing around town. We visited Desert Island, the new comic book store on Metropolitan. It is kind of the most perfect comic book store ever. I sense very much that the owner has been fantasizing about what would be his dream book store for like twenty years and then just finally made it happen. From the store exterior that blends in with an existing sign for a bakery to the gorgeous sculpture in the front window to the impeccable selection of comic books and graphic novels, Desert Island is a gem in the rapidly expanding quirky shopping haven that is Metropolitan Ave.

Between that and Word I'd say we're doing all right with bookstores over on this side of Brooklyn.

I totally forgot to mention in my list of events the other day this Sunday's Good World reading. Rosie Schaap, the newest addition to the secret shadowy cabal of Megan Lynch/Riverhead authors, is the hostess of the Dead Rock Stars night. My pal/Scrabulous competitor John Sellers is reading, along with others. It's at 5 PM. We're all going to get shitty drunk. You do not want to miss this.
