Guess who else picked that book? The goddamn Pen/Faulkner judges. That's right, Kate won! Our favorite stalwart Greenpoint writer took home the big prize this year. I have been smiling all week just thinking about it. She's truly an inspiration to (slightly) younger women writers like me who wonder if it is possible to break through writing literature that is not easily classifiable other than just trying to tell a good story and tell it well, and if it is possible to do it before say, the age of seventy. She renews my faith in the path I have chosen, and motivates me to keep on writing. I have not had too many literary role models in my life, but I have to say I can only hope that when I grow up I am just like her.
And if you haven't bought her book (or any of her books), for god's sake, do it already
